Beyond the red lipstick
Ever since I went to NYC for my advertising class in May of 2005, I’ve been a fan of People Magazine. During our two-week stint in the city, we met the editor of People and he assured us that they were a credible source of gossip. Regardless of the truth in that statement, I believe him. So, People has become one of my guilty reading pleasures. Especially in the online reading department.
Today, I went through the pictures of different women celebrities and picked the style of makeup I preferred on them. As I was going through the pictures, I noticed my pick of the best look rarely matched with other people’s opinions. And that made me think, what is true beauty and who is really the judge?
That old cliche, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, is really quite true. It’s not just something to make us feel better about rejection. Now, not to sound like a mother, but I firmly believe if I feel beautiful, then I’m the judge. Who cares what other people think or feel about my personal style. Like Dove’s Campaign for Real Beauty says, “We see beauty all around us.”
